Arquitecto Edouard Le Monnier

Edouard Stanislas Louis Le Monnier was born in Paris, France on 30 September 1873. French architect known for its works in Brazil, Uruguay and mainly in Argentina. He studied at the National School of Decorative Arts from Paris and after going to Brazil, he arrived to Buenos Aires in 1896.

In this city he developed the majority of his projects and completed works and thanks to the recognition received due to his works, different aristocratic families hired him to do their great residencies in Barrio Norte neighborhood. The most important one is the Fernández Anchorena Palace, which today serves as the Apostolic Nunciature, located in 1637 Alvear Avenue, built between 1907 and 1909.

One of his most important works was the social headquarters of the Argentine Yacht Club, which is located in one of the jetties of the North Dock, in Puerto Madero, done in 1913. In 1916 he would finish the Jockey Club of Rosario, at the corner of Maipú and Córdoba Street.

During the second half of the 1920s, and until the 1929 crisis, there was a great boom of the financial entities in Argentina. All of them built great head offices in downtown Buenos Aires, which ended up taking the role of financial city that today still preserves. Le Monnier was in charge of the headquarters of the Argentine Uruguayan Bank and the neighboring buildings of the Bencich brothers, owners of a construction company (Bencich Building, 615 Roque Sáenz Peña Avenue and Miguel Bencich Building, 614/6 Roque Sáenz Peña Avenue).

Edoard Le Monnier also taught at the National Academy of Fine Arts and the School of Architecture of the Faculty of Exact, Physical and Natural Sciences of the University of Buenos Aires. Edoard Le Monnier died in Buenos Aires, on 14 February 1931, at the age of 58.

Massimiliano Bencich

Massimiliano Bencich was born in Trieste City, Italy, on 23 January 1882, at that moment Austria-Hungarian Empire, governed by the Emperor Francisco José together with his wife, Sissi. Massimiliano arrives to Argentina in 1910, onboard the Atlántis Ship.

Together with his brother Miguel, they were two distinguished builders who embodied some of the most emblematic building of Buenos Aires City, such as the one requested by Mr. Nicolás Mihanovich, where today is located the Sofitel Arroyo Hotel. Around 1927, both brothers, requested Edoard Le Monnier Architect the design of both buildings for office renting, located in the emblematic Diagonal Norte Avenue, very close to the Historical Plaza de Mayo, where in one of its Cupolas today is located Caracol Studios.

In its constructions it stands out the high quality, through the use of fine and elegant materials, such as Carrara Marble, Slovenia oak, the use of venecitas in its corridors and bathrooms and cedar doors with wired glass among others, which give to these constructions a sober elegance nature, suitable for recreating different setting, giving it a unique and magical aspect.
